This is kind of a dumb question but here goes. There's a name that I've be wanting for quiet some time now. It's expired but the domain status is "Registrar-Lock", Updated date: "2002-07-10", registered through ENom. Is there any way I could speed this up, or how long will it take? Thanks

Well, it was (or is anyhow) locked at the registrar level, to prevent transfer. If it is expired, you might try emailing enom and seeing about the status. Enom doesn't usually hold onto domains like some other registrars.

This is basically a waiting game. With the new Redemption Grace Period thingy, registrars are REQUIRED to "shepherd" expired domains through a 30-day Redemption Period which is then followed by another 5-6 days of Pending Delete status. Registrar-Lock simply indicates that the name is still "Active", i.e. not yet entered into RGP. And most (not all, mind you) registrars would allow a 30-42 day grace period of their own before letting go. Now, do your own calculation. ;)

It will take at least 60 days until you can go register the domain name again. First Enom holds it for 30 days, then Verisign takes it over for another 30. If you were to try and get it right now you could be paying upwards of $200. Blame Verisign for that charge.

Hmm ... you may want to make clear that Verisign here refers to Verisign GRS the REGISTRY and NOT Network Solutions the Registrar, and that's for .com and .net only. As a matter of fact, this RGP thing (incl. that $85+ service charge) is approved by ICANN which applies to ALL unsponsored TLDs.
