Hi I have a domain registered and now I need host and here is my question:

If you want to transfer a domain from a registrar , to a hosting company isnt that free of charge ( you have a registered domain after all) ? , because I met a these guys from http://properplace.org and they want to charge me the same price as it is for the domain registration ?!?
How is that possible ? I paid once for a name and than I have to pay one more time to have the domain transfered ! Is that normal ?

Hi bambuki22,

It is up to the host whether or not they charge for domain name transfers. A domain name transfer costs the Web host the exact same amount as if they were registering a domain name for a client. If a host offers free domain name registration, chances are they will also transfer your domain name for free.

Dont transfer your domain name...just use your current registrar and set your name servers :)

Transfering to a web host is a waste of time, especially if you change your mind later you will have to pay ANOTHER transfer fee.

First off, you don't NEED to do a "registrar transfer" if you only want to get it hosted. Some hosting companies use wording like "transfer domain" but what they actually mean is "change nameservers".

If you really want and/or need to transfer out of your existing registrar, then yes, you need to pay the gaining registrar which will then extend your registration for another year.

Hope this clarify a bit.

It is industry standard for charging 1 year domain registration fee for domain transfer to another registrar and this process will extend your registration 1 more year under normal conditions.

Yes, right!!!
Just set the name server to point the hosting name server. But sometimes you have to register the name server first [ns30.domain.com > 90.123.23.44] after that you can set the name server.
Note this, sometimes you have to contact your registrar support to register the name server.
I hope this will help you...

You can "push" the domain to another account with the same registrar for free. Usually, a domain transfer costs slightly less than registration. Why are they trying to charge you? You're supposed to be the one who initiates a domain transfer.Do you have total control over the domain now?

It's been a while since I've transfered a domain but it used to be free for a .co.uk. A transfer of .com however would charge you (as said, for roughly the same amount you bought it for). But for that price your domain would be renewed upon a successful transfer.

I would have to ask you were did you register your domain at?
if your moving to a new host you should just have
to set your nameserver like this

Old server name servers
ns1.oldserver.com
ns2.oldserver.com

To your new host name servers.
ns1.newserver.com
ns2.newserver.com

You should not have to pay again for your domain...

I believe the OP was referring to changing registrars as well as the host.
