VeroHost.com offers domain registration via our sister site, VeroDomains.com.

It has come to our attention that some individual, or organization, is contacting the people who register a domain through us, via email or telephone and asking if they need hosting. They tell the person that they are work for VeroHost.com and if they are interested in Hosting.

First off, this is unacceptable. I don't have solid proof, simply because the people who have been called simply said "You already host me!" and than the person hangs up.

But I would like to know if anyone has had this problem or heard of this problem before? Thanks.

That's outrageous!

We're having a similar problem with a company who has stolen all of our site content. They refuse to remove it.

What exactly would be the motivation here? Someone has some free time, they pretend to be an employee from your company and ask if the person wants to use the services of your company? I don't get it.

They aren't providing my services tho. They are using them to get hosting through another company stating that it is a "partnership". they dont announce the company until the end.. grr this makes me mad

!!!!!!

I don't know how to properly respond. I know how I'd LIKE to respond, if I were in your situation...but that's probably much different from the best way to respond.

Post a notice telling people about the scam and saying "It ain't so", while listing any of your legitimate partners (if you have any) and cautioning people NOT to sign up with anyone but those listed partners, if they're urged? GoDaddy posts things similar when registrars start their latest round of "Oh, your domain is going to expire soon - better renew with us pronto!" scams.

Post a public service notice on how to deal with cold calls from companies who won't reveal their identities? (Consumer education.)

Post an email where people can send notes about the originating phone number of any calls like this, so you have a chance to trace the person back?

Check with a lawyer to see if you have any other (legitimate ;) ) options.

1000rpm, why not contact their provider about this fraud? They could suspend the account or site till this illegal content is taken down.

As to Robert's issue... perhaps having VeroDomains post a public message taht it has come to their and their partners attention that some is impersonating you. Maybe have them give offical details of how you will contact them, if you will contact them, from what address, etc. They should be clear that anything that does not match the details of their post is fraud and not to be trusted.
