I hate when that happens. I've responded with $1,200 once, never heard back. $500 worked once, but not sure what to tell you.

Tell them a high number, that would be great if they take, but you wouldnt mind going lower. If they are interested tehy will counter offer.

Yeah, like if you are selling something at a market. Price it higher than you really want to get for it and they will haggle with you. Personally I think $1,200 seems low just because of the exposure that slash* has.

I made an enquiry about a domain I wanted a few months ago but didn't get a reply.

If I was on the receiving end of an enquiry I'd just say I wanted enough to cover my expenses. Suitably ambiguous.
